This charming inside painted snuff bottle depicts a young Asian maiden kneeling on a beach and holding a queen conch near her ears. A queen conch (Lobatus gigas) is an invertebrate mollusk that produces what many people think of as the iconic seashell. This girl has just been told that you can hear the sound of ocean waves if you put a conch shell to your ear. But actually, she is hearing her own pulse. The sound is soothing. The artist, Lu Jianguang (1965-2018) was a pupil of master painter Wang Xisan. He was born in Jizhou City and was a Ji school student. Size of the original snuff bottle: 8.1 x 5.1 cm
